A revitalisation suggestion was to be made for the time-honoured building on Cologne’s main shopping street, which replaces the dilapidated facade with new coverings without changing the existing basic structure. We are planning a moderate, yet effective measure to modify only the upper floors of the building. The facade is split into three levels by way of vertical slat elements that, thanks to the different angles they create, evoke a visual “movement”. With the slats, made from sand-blasted ceramic, the plan responds to the exterior effect of the neighbouring office block, also offering a unique, quality look which impresses with its modest elegance.
