Residential House Cologne Junkersdorf

In 2014, we built a 300 sqm home, in the Cologne neighborhood of Junkersdorf, for a couple with four children. Over two full levels plus a penthouse-style top floor, we created a family residence, which combines the character of an open living space with opportunities for individual retreat. With its dark grey exterior plaster and larch wood-panel accents, the building stands out from its immediate surrounding. Inside, the open-plan living area on the ground floor is particularly convincing. Design elements such as elevation shifts and a freestanding open fireplace, structure and separate the different living areas, without restricting their openness. Highlights include the two-story airspace above the dining area and the lavish staircase, both architectural elements that create a vertical spatial connection and transport the open living atmosphere to the upper floors.
